The Atlanta Martial
Arts Center's Kung Fu for Kids curriculum focuses on physical development
using a martial art theme. The kids focus on developing balance, coordination,
self-control and motor skills while at the same time helping to develop
life-long self-defense skills. The curriculum is based on Shaolin Kempo
/ Kung Fu, one of the most complete martial art systems. The life skills
that our program teaches helps the student to develop respect, self
control, honesty and more.
Areas
of Development
Our
'Reward System' can improve a child's self-esteem: A child's
self esteem can be developed by successful accomplishments as an individual
as well as part of a team. Our school puts the emphasis on developing
a child's self esteem as an individual with our Reward System. When
kids earn their belts, they know they have accomplished something as
an individual as opposed to team sports where the emphasis is on being
a member of a winning team. Our belt system gives the child an opportunity
to experience what it is like to achieve on his or her own, as an individual.
Our
class structure teaches children self-discipline: Parents will
appreciate the development of self discipline their child will gain
from our classes. With a staff of patient instructors that love to work
with children, our classes are geared to create opportunities to practice,
as well as teach, self discipline. We will help the child recognize
that one must first master himself before he can influence others. We
have a lot of fun times with the kids, yet we are very clear about limits.
We enforce good rules of behavior in class, and we promote the same
good behavior at home and in school.
Our
activities channel children's aggression: Many doctors actually
recommend martial arts for children who are A.D.H.D. because of the
positive outlet it gives the child for the excess energy. We have instructors
that have previously worked with A.D.H.D. children.
Our
confidence class enhances children's assertiveness: At our
school, we believe confidence is one of the most important things we
can give kids. Every class we teach has confidence-building drills built
in.
Our
program teaches lifetime self-defense skills: Our programs
teach practical, proven self defense methods that the child will routinely
practice until mastered. We also teach the student when to use these
methods and when NOT to use them. We use role-playing to teach appropriate
reaction to strangers, and we empower them with their right to say "No"
when necessary.
